- Add the two mixture together in a mixer grinder and blend it for a few second, until it is homogenous
- Add salt and keep it aside for 15-20 minutes
- Heat the appam chatti (Appam pan). It will take around 3 minutes.
- Pour a ladleful of batter and swirl the pan. It should be slightly thick in the centre, thin and lacy over the sides.
- Cover and cook
- Centre should be cooked and the sides should be slightly brown
- Remove it with the help of a spatula.
Add water or thin coconut milk to bring it to a pouring consistency, like that of dosa batter. Appam is a Kerala dish made with fermented rice batter and served along with sweetened coconut milk or stew. It is prepared in an appa kal or appa chetti which is a bowl shaped. So when you make appam the center is a little thick and the edges are thin. A fermented spongy rice and coconut pancake called Appam.
