Instructions to make Hyderabadi khichdi (red gram khichdi):
- Wash and soak rice and daal together for 10 minutes. Slice onion.
- In a pot heat the oil and add all the whole spices. Add onion and fry it then add ginger garlic paste and turmeric and saute it.
- Add soaked rice and dal to pot and saute it on medium flame for 5 minutes.
- Add 5 cups of water, add salt and let it boil. When rice is half done add chopped coriander and mint leaves and let it cook.
- When water is absorbed lower the flame for another 5 minutes. Ready to serve.
