- Prepare A few Curry Leaves
- Get 1.5 tsp Salt
Vendakkai fry or vendakkai poriyal recipe - Simple South Indian style okra fry recipe. We prefer to have simple and healthy side dishes for dinner. This vendakkai poriyal is made in tamil speaking homes and is almost the same as bendakaya vepudu from andhra cuisine. even with udupi okra sambar there are several variation to this popular bende koddel or bendekayi huli. the main variation with the recipe is the way it is prepared. basically you can see vendakkai sambar recipe prepared with or without grounded coconut or freshly prepared grounded sambar masala. I have tried making okra in both ways, I prefer baking and it makes the dish more healthier.
Instructions to make Vendakkai Kathirikai Kadayal (Mashed Okra & Brinjal Curry):
- Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pressure pan. Saute the okras on high flame for 5 mins.
- Add in the brinjals, tomatoes, green chillies, sambar powder and turmeric powder. Saute for a while.
- Now add in washed and drained toordal.
- Also put in 1.5 cup water.
- Pressure cook for 4 to 5 whistles.
- Open. Mash with the back of a heavy ladle.
- Heat oil. Splutter the mustard. Add in the cumin seeds, hing and curry leaves.
- Now add this seasoning and salt to the mashed vegetables. Mix well.
- Offer Mashed Okra & Brinjal with Cooked Rice or Idli or Dosa to Lord Sri Krishna. Honor Krishna Prasadam.
Makes a healthy side dish for vishu/onam sadya or for everyday weekday meals, where its taste will be sure to steal the show! Now add in some salt and give a good toss. Wow….much tastier than the regular vendakkai poriyal….thanx fr this recipe. Vendakkai (Ladies Finger) Sambar is one of the tastiest recipes. You can also use other vegetables like Pumpkin, Drumstick, Vellai poosanikai(also known as white pumpkin / winter melon) instead of Ladies Finger(Okra) for this recipe.
