Steps to make Dal tadka with steamed rice:
- In a pressure cooker, wash and soak dal for1/2 an hour.
- Add salt and turmeric powder and Pressure cook for 2 whistles.
- When the pressure realises on it's own, open the lid and check the dal.
- In a deep kadai add ghee, jeera and chopped onions, once they start changing colour add tomatoes and let it cook for 3-5 mins, stirring occasionally with closed lid.
- When the tomatoes are cooked add the masala and saute it for a while.
- Now add boiled dal, salt and boil it for good 15 - 20 mins in medium low flame. You will find oil separating out in top.
- PS. I used the pre-boiled dal I had.
- Just before serving add the tempering to dal.
- For that, heat ghee in a small pan, once hot add jera, asofatida and chopped garlic. Saute garlic, add1 tsp red chilli powder and add to dal.
- For steamed rice -
- Boil water add 1/2 tspn oil, salt to taste, tej patta and soaked rice. Boil till the rice are cooked!
