Dal Fry is made by cooking the lentils Stir the dal and serve hot moong dal with steamed rice or chapatis. The moong dal tadka tastes better as it is and there is no need to garnish or add.
Instructions to make Dal tadka with steamed rice:
- In a pressure cooker, wash and soak dal for1/2 an hour.
- Add salt and turmeric powder and Pressure cook for 2 whistles.
- When the pressure realises on it's own, open the lid and check the dal.
- In a deep kadai add ghee, jeera and chopped onions, once they start changing colour add tomatoes and let it cook for 3-5 mins, stirring occasionally with closed lid.
- When the tomatoes are cooked add the masala and saute it for a while.
- Now add boiled dal, salt and boil it for good 15 - 20 mins in medium low flame. You will find oil separating out in top.
- PS. I used the pre-boiled dal I had.
- Just before serving add the tempering to dal.
- For that, heat ghee in a small pan, once hot add jera, asofatida and chopped garlic. Saute garlic, add1 tsp red chilli powder and add to dal.
- For steamed rice -
- Boil water add 1/2 tspn oil, salt to taste, tej patta and soaked rice. Boil till the rice are cooked!
