- Prepare 1 1 Lauki Bottle Gourd Sorakaya / / - Peeled & grated
- Make ready 4 green chillies Chopped
- Make ready 6 Teaspoons Besan

- Take 3 Tomato puree
- Get 1 Cup onion Brown paste
- Prepare 2 Teaspoons Coriander powder
- Get 1 Teaspoon Turmeric powder
- Get 3 Teaspoons Red chilli powder
- Take 2 Teaspoons Ginger garlic paste
- Take To Taste Salt
- Prepare 3 to fry Oil to tempering + koftas Cups
- Get 2 Teaspoons Coriander leaves
First time I heard about and also had lauki ke kofte at my in-law's home. I had never heard nor knew that a curry is made from bottle gourd koftas. Lauki Kofta curry is very popular curry recipe from Hyderabad. For those who does not know, Lauki Kofta = deep fried balls made Lauki kofta recipe - kofta made from bottle gourd (lauki) and besan, then deep fried in the oil.
Steps to make Sorakaya (Lauki) Kofta Curry:
- For Koftas Peel and grate the bottle gourd. Squeeze to remove excess water. Add the besan, green chilli, salt and mix well.
- Heat oil in a kadai, drop like pakodas using above mixture and deep fry until golden brown and crisp on the outside. Drain on absorbent paper and set aside.
- For Gravy
Heat 3 tsp of oil in a pan, add the brown onion paste and saute for 3 mins. Add ginger, garlic paste and saute for 2 mins. Add the turmeric powder, coriander powder and red chilli powder. Continue to saute on medium heat for 2 mins.
- Add tomato puree and continue to saute till the oil floats. Add 2 cups water and bring to boil. Add salt and cook for 10 mins. While serving arrange koftas on the serving plate, pour the gravy over them. Garnish with coriander leaves.
These koftas are simmered in creamy, flavorful onion-tomato-yogurt gravy. For making Lauki Kofta Curry recipe, Lauki or bottle gourd is grated and mixed with spices and besan (gram flour). This dough for lauki kofta is then made into small balls which are then deep fried to make lauki koftas. The lauki kofta is golden brown from outside and soft from inside.
