This dal is called as amritsari dal as its quite a popular dal made and served by a Dhaba (roadside eatery) outside the golden temple in amritsar, Punjab. For the first time I had made the dal amritsari with the recipe adapted from Jigg's kalra book - "prashad cooking with Indian masters". I have stuck to this recipe for many years now. Clean, wash and cut fish into one and a half inch size cubes.

- In a pan add dry chickpeas 2 cups boiled with 2 tea bags and water & salt and cook it for 45 minutes or untill fully cooked. - In a pan add oil, ghee, bay leaves, onion, ginger garlic paste, green chillies and mix it well.
- Add tomato puree and add the dry masalas - turmeric powder, amchur powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala, salt to taste & anardana powder.
- Add the chickpeas to the masala and water and cook it for 8-10 minutes. - Mash few of the chickpeas for consitency garnish with fresh coriander leaves. - Amritsari Chole is ready to be served!
