Leave it too cool; when it is cool, add the pineapple and orange juices to the zobo drink; you also add the diced fruits and stir well with a wooden stick or long spoon. Zobo drink is the original name from Nigeria, West Africa. The basic essence of this drink is (dry) Roselle leaves or popularly known also as Hibiscus Sabdariffa leaves coming from a species of Hibiscus plant, original and native of West Africa. Zobo drink also known as Sorrel drink or hibiscus drink is easy to make and it's refreshing.
Instructions to make Fruit Zobo (Hibiscus Drink):
- Wash your hibiscus leaves and remove any dirt and pour in a pot. Add in your hot water to the leaves. Throw in your sliced ginger and squeeze the lime juice in and throw the lime in and cover the pot and let sit for like 4 hours
- While you are waiting, get started on the fruits. Start by washing and cutting them up.
- Tip: leave small remenants of the back of the watermelon and blend first with water and liquid soap to remove any peppery taste from the blender. Then Wash and blend the fruits.
- After blending, use a cloth sieve to separate the particles from the fruit juice. Then keep in the refrigerator until it’s time to use
- After 4 hours, your zobo should be ready to be made. Sieve the hibiscus leaves from the water and immediately add your sugar, to your taste, while the water is still warm. It dissolves faster. And let sit to cool. You could add a block of ice to cool it faster.
- Then add your fruit juice and flavors and stir till they are all incorporated. Then use the sieve cloth to sieve the zobo again, just to remove any unwanted particles.
- Pour your zobo in a jar/jug and refrigerate until use.
